Friends Turn Good Times into Glad Tidings
Local group of friends decides to give back for the holidays
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- A casual gathering of friends to blow off steam from a hard day's work has become much more for one Midlands group of cohorts. They are turning good times into glad tidings to help those in need in time for the holidays.
Kimberly Pollard, Ashley Boykin and about 15 of their friends who meet each week at Pearlz Oyster Bar, Downtown Columbia, decided decorate a set up a Holiday Drive drop-off Box in at the restaurant.
They are collecting toiletries, cleaning supplies and other small items to be donated to St. Lawrence Place. It's a small community of about 28 homeless families working to become self sufficient again.
President and CEO, Lila Anna Sauls, says such necessities will last far beyond the Christmas season.
"People think of gifts under the Christmas tree like clothes, bikes, and games. But the bottom line is, our families can't afford the basic necessities of life, items they need throughout the year. They will see this stock pile of items and know we will have what they need," said Sauls.
Requested items include: laundry detergent, dish soap, toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, trash bags, small microwaves, and pillows.
The holiday drive drop-ff box will be at Pearlz until December 20. The restaurant is located at 936 Gervais St.
