Lexington County sheriff honored by SC officers
LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Lexington County Sheriff James Metts has received a lifetime achievement award from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association.
Metts' office said Tuesday the longtime sheriff received the honor Friday.
Metts has been Lexington County sheriff for nearly 40 years. He teaches classes for law enforcement professionals and criminal justice students at the collegiate level.
Metts has also received the Order of the Palmetto, the highest civilian honor a South Carolina governor can bestow, and the Order of the Silver Crescent, the state's highest civilian honor for community service. He has also been named sheriff of the year and as a distinguished alumnus of the University of South Carolina.
