Unrestrained infant dies in Columbia car wreck
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says a 10-month-old boy was not in a car seat or wearing a seat belt when he was ejected from a vehicle after a wreck on Interstate 20.
Authorities say Ayden Ferby was unrestrained in a 1999 Cadillac around 5 p.m. Tuesday when it ran into a 2000 Cadillac. Troopers say both cars ran off I-20 near the Two Notch Road exit and overturned.
Watts says the baby was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.
Authorities say two women in the vehicle with the infant were not injured, while a third remains in the hospital. The driver of the other vehicle also was not injured.
Troopers are still investigating the wreck.
