Traffic moving after I-26 accident
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Traffic on Interstate 26 in North Charleston is moving again after morning rush hour traffic was backed up for several miles following a 7-vehicle accident on the eastbound lane of the expressway.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the accident happened about 6 a.m. near the junction of I-26 and I-526. The patrol said several people were hurt and were taken to hospitals
One of the vehicles involved in the accident was found to be stolen after a carjacking in Port Royal.
The woman driving the car left the vehicle but was later arrested nearby and is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center for return to Beaufort County. Her name has not been released.
The patrol is still investigating the cause of the accident.
