Naturalist Jack Hanna visits SC center for birds
AWENDAW, S.C. (AP) — Naturalist and television personality Jack Hanna is visiting the Center for Birds of Prey on the South Carolina coast.
Hanna is director emeritus of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Ohio. He meets Saturday with families during a program featuring raptor demonstrations, face painting and other activities.
Hanna attends a center fundraising event Saturday evening which includes an auction featuring everything from a week at a log cabin in Montana to original artwork.
The Avian Conservation Center and the Center for Birds of Prey was organized 20 years ago. It operates a medical clinic for injured raptors and conducts educational programs at its 150-acre campus.
The center is also equipped to respond in the event sea birds are tarred in an oil spill along the Southeast coast.
