Columbia has 23 places to recycle old phone books
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — New phone books are being delivered around South Carolina. But what to do with the old ones?
Keep the Midlands Beautiful, AT&T Real Yellow Pages and Sonoco Recycling are encouraging people to bring their old phone books and have them recycled.
Starting Wednesday, phone books can be dropped off at 23 different spots in the Columbia area. For more information, visit www.keepthemidlandsbeautiful.org.
Keep American Beautiful says phone book paper is made from recycled paper and wood fiber like sawdust and wood chips. Recycled phone books are made into products including animal bedding, home insulation, cereal boxes, roofing shingles — and new phone books.
