SC man fined after pit bull kills neighbor's cat
BLUFFTON, S.C. (AP) — A Bluffton man has been fined $255 after his pit bull killed a neighbor's cat. But the man says the cat was violating the local leash law.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports http://bit.ly/xGwOYh that Wendell Brantley appeared in city court Tuesday on a charge that he let his pit bull run free earlier this month.
A police officer testified the dog killed a cat in front of witnesses.
Brantley confirmed the account but asked the officer if the cat was leashed. It was not and the judge said the leash law applies to cats.
Brantley says his dog gets out infrequently but cat owners let their pets roam daily. He says he feels sorry for the cat owner but says both he and the owner broke the law.
