Orangeburg Sheriff: Man held in shooting death

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — An Orangeburg resident has been found shot to death and sheriff's deputies have charged a man with attempted murder.

The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reported (http://bit.ly/GFEV1T) that 29-year-old Steven Direll Johnson is charged in the death of 26-year-old Taneris Hamilton.

Chief Deputy Coroner Sean Fogle said an autopsy Wednesday confirmed Hamilton died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Keisa Peterson says the shooting Tuesday evening is under investigation.

Johnson is being held at the Orangeburg-Calhoun jail. It isn't immediately clear whether he has an attorney.
