Man charged in deadly SC dump truck crashCOLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A 66-year-old dump truck driver has been charged in a crash that killed a Columbia man riding in a motorized wheelchair. Columbia police said Monday that William Travis Crutchfield had been charged with reckless homicide. Police say Crutchfield was driving a commercial dump truck on the morning of June 25 in the city's Five Points restaurant and bar district near downtown. Police say Crutchfield didn't stop properly at a red light and turned, hitting 67-year-old George Jackson of Columbia as he tried to cross the street in his wheelchair. Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says Jackson was pronounced dead at a hospital. It wasn't immediately clear if Crutchfield had an attorney. He turned himself in to police and was being held Monday in the Richland County jail. |
