COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) - ABC Columbia News first reported on Monday about the City of Columbia allowing the Gay and Lesbian community to put up rainbow flags on Main street.

We've received mixed reviews from folks on this issue during the last couple of days.

For example, some folks mention that there is a Gamecock Baseball flag on one corner, then a few feet away there is a Shop Proud, Shop Columbia banner. However, it's the rainbow flag that has been taking some heat because some folks are saying that it gives the impression that the city is condoning a certain belief.

If the City of Columbia provides space and opportunity for gay rights activists then the same must be done for all other groups in our community. How is one lifestyle's emblem or colors chosen over another?
For example, my lifestyle choice is Christianity and the emblems representing such is Jesus, a cross or a fish. How wonderful it is going to be when my belief is also gracing the Main Street lamp posts!

My outlook on the gay pride banner being hung on Main Street are that there are a culture of gay men and women living in Columbia and if we try to deny them their right of freedom of speech that's immoral, unjust
and completely wrong.
