I have worked in the field of journalism for the last 15 years, and while I have lived in several different states, few have been as welcoming and pleasant as the great state of South Carolina.
I have a host of family members who live across the Midlands and spent many summers here but grew up hundreds of miles away in a small town just outside of Hartford, Connecticut. I have always had a place in my heart for the South and moved to Virginia to attend Virginia State University, where I majored in English and minored in Mass Communications.
I started my career in journalism as a Public Relations Assistant for VSU (Go Trojans!, and as a Photojournalist for The Progress Index during college. In my junior year, I accepted a position at WRIC TV 8 (ABC) in Richmond, Virginia, where I caught the television bug and spent the next 13 years there exploring the many facets in this wonderful world of news. There I worked as an Assignment Desk Manager, General Assignment Reporter, and eventually a Fill-in Anchor.
I was able to cover numerous national stories during my time there, including the DC sniper case, the Virginia Tech shootings, the Presidential election of Barack Obama, the dog fighting trial of NFL Star Michael Vick, and the National Boy Scout Jamboree that earned me an Associated Press Award for Best Spot News.
My husband, twin daughters, and I relocated to South Carolina in December of 2010. I briefly worked at a television station here in Columbia where I reported, produced, and anchored.
I am a member of the NAACP, The National Association of Black Journalists, and the American Cancer Society. I am an avid Cowboys Fan and love the Boston Celtics!! In my spare time. I enjoy spending time with my family, taking part in community events, listening to live music, and attending church. I am proud to be a steward of the community and look forward to covering the stories that are going to make a difference in the lives of South Carolinians.
You can catch me as the Weekend Anchor for ABC Columbia News every Saturday and Sunday night, live from Main and Gervais, and reporting the stories that affect you during the week.
