A&M May Be Gamecocks SEC Cross-Rival
COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) -- South Carolina will apparently play Texas A&M as its future permanent cross-division SEC opponent in football.
South Carolina president Harris Pastides told our Rob Brennan that A&M seems like the only option for a permanent cross-divisional rival in football. The Gamecocks have always played Arkansas as its cross-divisional opponent from the west. "Arkansas is a long way off. Arkansas and Missouri have kind of buddied up because they are neighboring states and wanted to play each other," Pastides said. "That left the opportunity for us to think about Texas A&M, I'd love to know what the fans think." Pastides went on to say an official announcement on this issue will be in about one to two weeks. But is very confident, the Aggies and Gamecocks will become future SEC rivals. "If all goes the way I think it will, we'll probably be swapping Arkansas for Texas A&M in the fall," said Pastides. |

Hate this idea! The only option for fans is flying - eliminates alot of the road warriors.

To SP- Why not fly into Fayetteville instead of Little Rock, and save yourself the three and a half hour drive?

Fact is, USC is just tired of the Razorbacks smoking them every year.

As far as the distance to TAMU vs. Arkansas for SC fans, TAMU would be less of a hassle if you are including a flight. It is only about 90 miles to College Station from Houston while it is three times that from Little Rock to Fayetteville. If you are driving from Columbia, SC, it is only about 150 miles different. So, the travel consideration is overstated.

I'm an Aggie and live in south Charlotte. Love this choice. Can't wait to visit Columbia!

After the success we've had as of late, I'm gonna miss playing South Carolina every year. Everyone knew SC, A&M, or Mizzou was going to get a raw rival travel deal out of this whole expansion. I'm just glad we picked up a cross-rival who is a hop, skip, and jump away compared to Columbia (SC)... now we get to go to the other Columbia!!!

As an Aggie who lived in Charleston, the ideal of trips back to SC for this game is fantastic!! Best possible choice!!

David, I don't know if you are serious...I would prefer South Carolina instead of Florida and Mizzou. But the schedule should be interesting for 2013 season.

This is a win-win for Arkansas, and South Carolina, but it's a terrible deal for Missouri. Missouri recruits in Texas, and Arkansas recruits in Missouri. South Carolina will have a game every other year near Houston. Houston is a gold mine for D1 recruits. Does the guy in the video realize that A&M is further away than Fayetteville? Oh well, Arkansas and Missouri will be an instant rivalry game.

I'm fine with this. It's appropriate that the furthest east and furthest west schools play each other yearly.
