Gamecocks' Home Opener

By Kyle Dauberman

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- The #9 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks open their home portion of the 2012 football season. The Gamecocks will play ECU this Saturday, September 8 at 12:21 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium. What does history suggest for the Gamecocks?

This is now Steve Spurrier's 8th season as the Head Coach for the Gamecocks. Spurrier is now 56-35 at USC after last Thursday's 17-13 win over Vanderbilt.

Since Spurrier took over as the Head Ball Coach the team is 6 and 1 in home openers with the only loss coming to Georgia back in 2006. History suggests that the Gamecock's should win this week's match-up.

However Spurrier knows it won't be an easy one, "Expect another tough game. They'll be ready to play. We should too. Looking forward to being back home here at Williams-Brice. We've won 18 of the last 21 here. We should feel comfortable here at home. Hopefully we'll get our offense a little on track. Hopefully we can pitch it around better than we have, but the object is to win the game."
