Gamecocks start NFL training camps
Jadeveon Clowney, LB, Texans
The top pick in the 2014 NFL draft was able to practice with the Texans Saturday for day one of training camp, but said he was not 100 percent. Clowney is recovering from his June surgery for a sports hernia. The Texans will put on pads for the first time Monday and Clowney said he wasn't sure if he will be able to be full-go.
Bruce Ellington, WR, 49ers
Ellington, a fourth-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers, was elevated from the Active/Non-Football Injury List to the active roster on Friday. He sprained his ankle during off-season workouts.
Connor Shaw, QB, Browns
As an undrafted free agent, Shaw is battling for a roster spot with the Browns in training camp. He is competing against veteran Brian Hoyer, first-round pick Johnny Manziel and former Coastal Carolina quarterback and NFL veteran Tyler Thigpen.
Marcus Lattimore, WR, 49ers
Lattimore began training camp on the 49ers PUP list due to a combination of his 2012 knee injury and a hamstring injury that occurred during practice in the spring.
Captain Munnerlyn, CB, Vikings
After five seasons with the Panthers, Munnerlyn signed a $15 million deal with Minnesota, where he’s expected to start despite starting camp on the PUP list with a hamstring injury. Last season with the Panthers he had 74 tackles and 12 pass breakups.
Alshon Jeffery, WR, Bears
Jeffery had a stand-out season last year with the Bears, recording 89 receptions for 1,421 yards and seven touchdowns. He is looking to build on his numbers this season.
D.J. Swearinger, S, Texans
After recording 71 tackles as a rookie, he will look to have an even better season in 2014.
