Reports: Lee To Interview With Arizona State

(WOLO/WCIV) -- After leading the College of Charleston to an NCAA Super Regional for the second time in school history, head coach Monte Lee is reportedly set to interview at Arizona State.

According to Baseball America writer Aaron Fitt, the former South Carolina assistant coach will be interviewing in Phoenix next week.

Arizona State is a member of the Pac-12 and has the highest win percentage (.681) in the conference.

Lee said in a phone interview Saturday night that he was declining all comments on the rumors out of Arizona out of respect for the process.

Arizona State recently let go its head coach, Tim Esmay, after five years. He leaves the program with a 201-94-1 record, but ended the 2014 season at 33-24 with a win-less elimination from the NCAA regional.

Lee, on the other hand, picked up 44 wins this season and guided the Cougars to a Super Regional against Texas Tech. They lost a pair of games 1-0 and were sent home.

Arizona Republic's Jeff Metcalfe said he though Lee could be a nice fit for the ASU program, but he thought the Cougars' chief's name might be a bit off the radar in the ASU athletic director's office.

Lee is considered one of the top young coaches in college baseball. Under his guidance, the College has made appearances in NCAA regionals twice, one Super Regional appearance, and a 231-130 record.
