Michael Roth 1st MLB Start Recap

By Sports Department

(WOLO) -- Michael Roth's first major league start began like he hoped. He hopes his future starts will have a better ending.

The former Gamecock held the Texas Rangers scoreless for three innings in Anaheim Wednesday night. One of baseball's best lineups got to the rookie in the 4th inning. Roth ended up leaving the game with 1 out in the 4th with the bases loaded and the Angels trailing 2-0. Reliever Dan Carpenter proceeded to give up 5 runs to Texas after Roth's exit, making the former Gamecock's stat line look a little worse than his actual performance.

Roth's final line in his first major league start: 3.1 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 2 BB & 2 Ks.

Roth's updated season stats: 8.1 IP, 10 H, 7 ER, 3 BB & 9 Ks.

I had the honor of umpiring Michael when he was in Little League in Taylors SC, he was a true laid back pitcher even at a young age,,and always had a smile on his face no matter the situation. It was and is a pleasure knowing him,,although I haven't seen him since he graduated high school Good Luck Michael, always,,P. Huff
