Panthers GM Likes Roster Headed Into Draft
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Dave Gettleman has no plans to gut the Panthers' existing roster.
In fact Carolina's new general manager believes the team is closer to being a robust playoff contender than most people think after what he called a productive free agency signing period.
Gettleman says he doesn't see any major holes, but ``maybe you think I'm Pollyanna.''
The Panthers finished 7-9 last season, failing to make the NFC playoffs for the fourth straight season.
Longtime GM Marty Hurney was fired midseason.
After reviewing game film from Gettleman says the team's strong finish -- Carolina won five of its last six -- leaves him feeling confident that the right pieces are in place and the roster doesn't need to be overhauled.
He says ``often times the answer is (already) on your roster.''
