SC Senate Honors Spurrier

By Sports Department

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- The countless conversations that usually happen around official State House business officially took the floor Thursday when the SC Senate honored USC football coach Steve Spurrier with a resolution for his success with the Gamecocks.

Carolina's 5-game winning streak over Clemson was mentioned several times by several senators who graduated from USC. The most interesting official comment on the floor came from Cherokee County Republican Senator Harvey Peeler, a Clemson graduate. On the Gamecocks recent winning streak in the Palmetto State Showdown, Peeler said, "(Tiger fans) used to say, 'Wait until next year.' Now we say, 'Wait until Coach Spurrier retires.'"

The resolution ceremony took approximately 15 minutes. Afterwards, Spurrier shook hands and took pictures with legislators and staff members. The Ball Coach couldn't resist making a trademark jab at lawmakers during a recess immediately following the ceremony.

Spurrier joked, "Do you guys always read the same thing twice?"
