Sports Illustrated Mid-Season All-American Teams Announced

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- The editors and writers at have announced its 2011 midseason All-American team. Four Clemson Tigers and one South Carolina Gamecock represented the first and second team.

Headlining the bunch are Carolina senior defensive end, Melvin Ingram, and Clemson freshman wide receiver, Sammy Watkins.

In Carolina's 6-1 start, Ingram so far has 5.5 sacks, 31 total tackles, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery. Watkins has been taking the nation by storm with his performance thus far in 2011. Watkins already has 46 receptions, 728 yards, and nine total touchdowns. He also has 11 receptions of 20-plus yards.

Second team selections include three Clemson Tigers. Junior tight end Dwayne Allen, senior defensive end Andre Branch, and Watkins, who was selected to the second team as a kick returner.

Allen is averaging just over 14 yards per catch this season with 381 yards and four touchdown receptions. Branch continues to have a dominating year on the defensive line with eight sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and 46 total tackles. Watkins, who is coming off a big game returning kicks against Maryland, had an 89-yard kick-off return for a TD and finished the game with a Clemson record 345 all-purpose yards.

The Gamecocks (6-1, 14th BCS) are off this weekend. Clemson (7-0, 7th in BCS) host North Carolina Saturday at noon. The game can be seen on ESPN.
