Tolleson Named To IL All-Star Team
FORT MILL, S.C. (Knight's SID) -- Charlotte infielder Steve Tolleson, a South Carolina native who played his college baseball at the University of South Carolina, has been named to the International League All-Star Team on Friday, July 5 to represent the Knights. Tolleson will take the roster spot of catcher Josh Phegley, who was promoted to the Chicago White Sox on Friday.
The 2013 Triple-A All-Star Game will take place on Wednesday, July 17 in Reno, NV. The game will feature the International League All-Stars against the Pacific Coast League All-Stars. Tolleson will join manager Joel Skinner and hitting coach Brandon Moore, who were named as coaches for the team. Reliever David Purcey was also named to the International League All-Star Team. Purcey is currently playing for the Chicago White Sox after he was promoted to the club on Wednesday, July 3.
Tolleson, 29, is hitting .270 (63-233) with 17 doubles, one triple, five home runs, and 39 RBIs over 69 games with the Knights this season. Currently, Tolleson is in the midst of a 10-game hit streak. Over that 10-game span, Tolleson is hitting .342 (13-38) with two runs scored, four doubles, one triple, and nine RBIs.
The 2013 season is the first for Tolleson in Chicago's organization. He spent the 2012 season with the Baltimore organization and hit .278 with one home run and 21 RBIs for Triple-A Norfolk in 50 games. He also appeared in 29 games for the Orioles last season. He was signed by the White Sox as a free agent on November 15, 2012.
Originally selected by the Minnesota Twins in the fifth round of the 2005 draft, Steve is the son of former Major League Wayne Tolleson. Wayne played 10 seasons in the Majors with Texas (1981-85), the White Sox (1986), and the New York Yankees (1986-90).
