DURHAM, N.C. (BASEBALL AMERICA) -- North Carolina improved its record to an astounding 39-2 with a sweep of Duke and remained at No. 1 in the Baseball America College Top 25 rankings.

While UNC stayed fixed at No. 1, the rest of the top ten saw some shuffling this week. Louisiana State won a series at Alabama and moved up to No. 2 for the first time this year, dropping Vanderbilt to No. 3. Virginia swept Florida State in a matchup of top-10 teams, earning the Cavaliers the No. 5 ranking.

Another ACC team was the week¹s biggest mover, however. North
Carolina State jumped up nine spots for sweeping then-No. 14 Georgia Tech on the road, coming in at No. 6 in the new rankings. The Wolfpack, which began the season ranked No. 8, had dropped out of the Top 25 in late March but has stormed back with a 14-game winning streak.

UCLA also rejoined the Top 10 by virtue of going on the road and taking a series from No. 13 Oregon. Other teams on the move up the rankings included South Carolina, which swept Kentucky to take the No. 15 ranking, and Mississippi, which slots in at No. 18 after sweeping Tennessee on the road.

Meanwhile, Kentucky, which had been ranked as high as No. 7 on April 1, dropped all the way out of the rankings following its third straight series loss.

Stanford and New Mexico returned to the rankings this week at Nos. 21 and 24, respectively. Stanford was ranked in the top 10 in the preseason but dropped out in March. The Cardinal has recovered to win four straight series and improve to 9-6 in the Pacific-12 Conference. New Mexico was also ranked in the preseason (No. 21) before quickly falling out, but the Lobos have won six straight series and lead the Mountain West Conference by three games.

The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records
indicated are through games of April 21 and do not include ties.
