COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Coach Steve Spurrier has postponed the start of spring football practice at South Carolina because of cold weather.

Temperatures in Columbia weren't expected to climb out of the mid 40s when the Gamecocks were scheduled to take the field Tuesday afternoon. There was no precipitation in the forecast.

Spurrier has been known to alter practices based on the weather during his nine previous seasons at South Carolina. He has sometimes started spring workouts a day earlier than planned when conditions were milder than forecast and he was ready to get on the field.

South Carolina's next scheduled practice is Thursday.
