COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- Anthony McCallum is reaching new heights in and out of the gym. He is South Carolina's first male gymnast to reach the finals at the Junior Olympic National Championships. The freshman at Ridge View High School is also an honor student and hopes to one day study genetics at Stanford.

Anthony also has a sense of humor. When asked what he likes best about gymnastics he replied, "I don't have to worry about getting fat."

I am extremely proud of Anthony(Andre). I am a very proud God-mother who is guilty of worrying all the time if this is a safe sport! what if he fall! But Andre' have continued to focus on the art of gymnastic. At every competition I remind him how I am so proud of him as a young man,great student and outstanding athlete. I also remind him to always do his very best and walk away with his head high when he compete and I shadow him with angels of prayer for continued delivery of greatness in every performance. I love my god child and feel very blessed to be able to view his accomplishments from Maryland. With all the hard work and great focus I know that Columbia will see a lot of great things from such a gifted young man. I Love You Andre" God Mama Peanut!
