Alleged Auburn Shooter Surrenders To Police
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- A defense attorney says a man accused of killing three people near Auburn University over the weekend has turned himself in.
Attorney Susan James says in a phone interview that Desmonte Leonard was taken into custody on Tuesday. Her comments confirm an earlier report by a law enforcement official who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity. She said she received a text from her law office about noon saying Leonard's family was reaching out to her to turn himself in. She arranged for Leonard to turn himself in around 7:50 p.m. at a courthouse in Montgomery. Leonard is wanted for killing three people and wounding three at a party near Auburn University on Saturday. Police surrounded a house in Montgomery Monday afternoon and spent hours scouring it only to realize that the suspect wasn't inside. |
