Gamecocks Still In Search Of An Identity

By Sports Department

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- Frank Martin says the Gamecocks are doing two things well right now: playing with passion and rebounding. It's a start to what Martin hopes to become USC's identity.

Last Saturday, the Gamecocks won their second SEC game of the season against Arkansas, a 75-54 win over the Razorbacks that was their biggest conference victory in four years.

"I'm excited about what's in front of us," said Martin. "Our guys, like I said last week, our guys are trying. Our biggest weakness when we started back in October was listening. Our guys struggled to listen. But, we've gotten a lot better there, and it's no surprise that we've improved as a team."

As far as the team's identity though, Martin says he doesn't think USC is anywhere near they want to be.

"I can tell you our guys are playing hard," said Martin. "Our guys are trying. I think offensively and defensively, we're leaps and bounds ahead of where we were at December 1, or even January 1 for that matter."

Wednesday, the Gamecocks take on their highest-ranked opponent of the season thus far, no. 4 Florida in Gainesville. Tip off is set for 8pm.
