Hank Aaron Visits Columbia

By Sports Department

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- Wednesday baseball legend Hank Aaron returned to the site of his final minor league game 60 years later.

Aaron played against the Columbia Reds in 1953 at Capital City Stadium. As part of the farewell festivities to the stadium this season, the Home Run King returned to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before Wednesday night's Coastal Plain League game.

The Martinsville Mustangs beat the Columbia Blowfish 7-1, but thousands of fans will never forget being in the presence of one of the best players in baseball history.

Before the first pitch Aaron did a sit-down interview over the public address system in front of the pitcher's mound for approximately 20 minutes.
