Local Prep Teams Punch Title Game Tickets

(WOLO) -- They had to hit the road to do it, but a handful of Midlands high school basketball teams punched their tickets to state title games Friday night.

Future Gamecock Justin McKie helped Irmo stay undefeated with a 63-49 win over Hillcrest in the AAAA Boys Upper State Finals in Greenville.

Irmo will play Goose Creek for the state championship. The Gators knocked off Sumter in the Lower State Finals 57-47 in Florence.

Future Gamecock Alaina Coates has helped the Dutch Fork girls get a chance to repeat as state champs. The Silver Foxes beat Aiken 40-24 in the AAAA Girls Lower State Finals in Florence. Dutch Fork will play Dorman for the state championship.

Cardinal Newman and Hammond will meet in the SCISA AAA Boys state championship in Sumter Saturday night at 8 p.m. Cardinal Newman beat Porter Gaud 63-49. Hammond outlasted Augusta Christian 63-55.

The Heathwood Hall girls will also play for a private school state title Saturday night in Sumter. The Highlanders will take on Pinewood Prep. Friday, Heathwood Hall beat Northwood Academy 63-47. Pinewood Prep beat Hammond 67-37.
