Martin Heading to World University Games

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- South Carolina men's basketball coach Frank Martin held a 40-minute press conference Friday morning at Colonial Life Arena to give an update on the Gamecocks' progress in the offseason before heading out of the country for a few weeks to help coach Team USA in the World University Games in Russia.

"I've just been enjoying the offseason. I've gotten through camps and I'm getting ready to leave town for three weeks and I'm in a good frame of mind right now."

"We're bigger, that's plain and simple. That is the first thing you notice when you see us on the court. It's important. Last year we didn't have size on the perimeter or at the rim. We're bigger and we're longer."

"I don't know how good we're going to be this year, we have so many new players and I don't know enough about them at this point. You have to rely on patience and teaching with new players. The guys who are good will embrace the teaching. They will get consumed by the want to improve. Those are the guys you focus on and who you want to be better. If you have kids who care, players who want to learn, you don't get caught up in their mistakes, you get caught up in teaching them."
