COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) -- Former Arizona head coach Mike Stoops has put his name in the hat to replace Ellis Johnson as the Gamecocks defensive coordinator. Stoops was fired as Arizona coach earlier this season.

Stoops, the younger brother of Oklahoma Head Coach Bob Stoops, says he's watched the Gamecocks and feel they have SEC championship potential. Steve Spurrier is very good friends with Bob Stoops, Bob was Spurrier's defensive coordinator at Florida and both families share property in the Jacksonville area.
