COLUMBIA (WOLO) -- Steve Spurrier said running back Mike Davis could be questionable for the Gamecocks season-opener against Texas A&M.

“Mike Davis has been hurt, he hasn’t practiced all week,” coach Steve Spurrier told the Sportstalk radio network after Wednesday’s practice. “I don’t know if he’d even be able to start or not. But we got Brandon Wilds, he’s ready to go. Shon Carson, Dave Williams, so we’re in good shape there.”

Davis has missed two days of practice with what he says is as a rib injury.

The Heisman candidate said his injury isn't anything serious and tweeted Thursday, "Ya'll really think I'm going to miss the first game?"

Running backs coach Everette Sands also said it wasn’t anything to worry about.

However Spurrier said, “He hasn’t practiced much, so we’ll see how much he’s ready to play for the game.”

South Carolina coaches are scheduled to speak after Thursday’s practice, which begins at 4:15 p.m.
