COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- Steve Spurrier is thanking James Franklin for helping him prepare the Gamecocks for the season opener. On his radio call-in show, Spurrier was asked about Franklin's reference to Thursday night's season opener as Vanderbilt's "Super Bowl." "He's trying to get them fired up, excited. I have always thought you can’t put all your eggs in one basket," Spurrier said, adding, "I really believe the noise out of Nashville has helped us get ready to play." At his weekly press conference Monday, Franklin said he is encouraged by his team's improved confidence in his second year in charge at Vanderbilt. "They feel if the Green Bay Packers come into that stadium on Thursday or Saturday that they're going to play with them, and they're going to beat them," Franklin said. Franklin was asked about his realistic expectations for the Commodores' record in the 2012 season. "The realistic expectation is to beat South Carolina on Thursday." He added for dramatic effect, "Nothing exists after South Carolina. This is the only thing that exists...This is our Super Bowl. No other game exists."
