Gamecocks Get 38-35 Win Over Georgia

After inclement and stormy weather in the Columbia area caused an hour and 26-minute delay to the start of the game, lightning struck as No. 24 South Carolina took down No. 6 Georgia, 38-35, on a rain-soaked evening at Williams-Brice Stadium. After Georgia kicker Marshall Morgan missed his second field goal of the night with 4:24 left on the clock, the Gamecocks were able to run out the clock as senior quarterback Dylan Thompson narrowly converted on a fourth-and-one at midfield with 1:26 left in the game. No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Monday and will be out 4-6 weeks. Coach Bill O'Brien said he didn't know exactly what was repaired in Clowney's knee. Fry Earns National Weekly Award

University of South Carolina sophomore placekicker Elliott Fry is one of three kickers from FBS division teams recognized as “Stars of the Week” for their performance last weekend by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission and the Lou Groza Collegiate Placekicker Award. Reports:Clowney Out 4-6 Weeks

According to multiple reports, former Gamecock Jadeveon Clowney will have knee surgery on a torn meniscus Monday and will miss the next 4-6 weeks. The #1 overall NFL draft pick left the Houston Texans season opener just before halftime. Clowney appeared to injure his right knee by landing awkwardly after attempting to knock down a Robert Griffin III pass with less than 3 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter. Read More »

Clowney Injured In NFL Debut

Houston's Jadeveon Clowney, the top overall pick in this year's draft, injured his knee Sunday and didn't return against Washington. Coach Bill O'Brien didn't provide much more information on Clowney's health after the game. "They think it's a good prognosis, so it looks like it's going to be OK," O'Brien said. Former Gamecock Spencer Lanning makes a living kicking a football. Sunday he was on the receiving end of a kick...to the face. The Cleveland Browns punter was covering his own punt when Pittsburgh return man Antonio Brown tried to hurdle him. Lanning received a foot to the face but helped to bring Brown down. The Gamecocks (1-1) dropped three spots in the Associated Press poll to No. 24, while they fell two slots to No. 23 in the Amway Coaches’ poll.
