Martin Takes Cancer Fight To Capitol Hill

University of South Carolina head men's basketball coach Frank Martin joined over 650 cancer patients, advocates, survivors, caregivers and their families, along with staff from the American Cancer Society and fellow head coaches Mark Turgeon (Maryland) and Phil Martelli (Saint Joseph's) in Washington, D.C., this week, as the ACS Cancer Action Network (CAN) hosted its annual Leadership Summit and Lobby Day. Martin and his fellow coaches support cancer research through the "Coaches vs. Cancer" initiative, a nationwide collaboration between the ACS and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Staley Recruit To Sit Out Upcoming Season

South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley announced today the NCAA has approved an initial eligibility waiver for freshman Doniyah Cliney that has allowed her to enroll in school but not compete for the Gamecocks in the 2014-15 season. The guard will focus on academics in the fall semester with an opportunity to begin practicing with the team beginning in the spring semester. Read More »

SEC Soccer Opener On TV

No. 14 South Carolina (7-1-0) opens SEC play at Auburn (6-2-0) on Sunday in each team’s first conference match. The 1 p.m. ET contest at the Auburn Soccer Complex will be televised nationally on the SEC Network and is South Carolina’s first non-football broadcast on the newly launched network. The Gamecocks have won all three of their matches away from Stone Stadium in 2014 and will look to start conference play with a win for the first time since 2011. Read More »

After inclement and stormy weather in the Columbia area caused an hour and 26-minute delay to the start of the game, lightning struck as No. 24 South Carolina took down No. 6 Georgia, 38-35, on a rain-soaked evening at Williams-Brice Stadium. After Georgia kicker Marshall Morgan missed his second field goal of the night with 4:24 left on the clock, the Gamecocks were able to run out the clock as senior quarterback Dylan Thompson narrowly converted on a fourth-and-one at midfield with 1:26 left in the game.
