Grantz heads group honored by SC Athletic Hall

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Former South Carolina two-sport star Jeff Grantz is among three award winners who will be honored by the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame.

Grantz was a quarterback for the football team and was an infielder for the baseball team. He will receive the Dom Fusci Leadership in Action Award at ceremonies scheduled for May 13.

Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes was named winner of the Willie Jeffries Ambassador Award while longtime Post & Courier sports columnist Ken Burger won the Herman Helms Media Excellence Award.

The three will be honored alongside the hall's latest class, which includes South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner and the late Jim Phillips, who served as Clemson's play-by-play voice for 36 years.
