Clowney Not Unanimous First Team Pick
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney fell 20 votes short of becoming a unanimous preseason SEC first-team selection.
The SEC's Defensive Player of the Year in 2012 was named on 223 of 243 ballots, an all-time high for the voting.
Some media members say the ballots show a slight against the potential Heisman candidate.
"243 media voted for All-SEC team: 20 did not vote for Jadeveon Clowney on first team. Please identify yourself," tweeted ESPN's Brett McMurphy.
"Jadeveon Clowney was left OFF 20 of 243 ballots for preseason All-SEC. We can only assume they haven't seen [The Hit]," tweeted ESPN's official SportsCenter account.
No players were unanimous.
Clowney, Alabama linebacker C.J. Mosley (231 first-place votes) and Alabama running back T.J. Yeldon (221 first-place votes) were the top players receiving votes in the balloting for the preseason all-conference team.
Clowney was the only Gamecock defender named to the All-SEC defensive team.
