(WOLO) -- A pair of Gaffney High School standouts will go their separate ways for college.

Tuesday evening wide receiver Shaq Davidson verbally committed to play at USC. Basketball standout LJ Peak originally put on a Gamecock hat during his announcement, but replaced it with a Georgetown hat to signify his verbal commitment to play hoops for the Hoyas.

Davidson did not surprise anyone who knew him by picking the Gamecocks. "Ever since my tenth grade year when I tore my ACL, I felt like they were the ones there the whole time recruiting me the hardest," Davidson said.

Peak, rated the #54 player in the country by ESPN, got the hometown crowd's hopes up when he originally donned the Gamecock hat, but in the end choose the school with the proven basketball tradition. "They (Georgetown) have a great history and I just thought why not join the history," Peak said. "South Carolina ain’t really got a history of great players and getting them to the NBA so I just happened to choose Georgetown.”
