Gamecocks Move Up Two Spots In Polls
COLUMBIA, S.C. (USC SID) -- The University of South Carolina football team, fresh off a 27-17 win over in-state rival Clemson, moved up two notches in both national polls released Sunday afternoon.
The Gamecocks (10-2, 6-2 SEC) are ranked 11th in this week’s Associated Press poll, and 10th in this week’s USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ poll. The Gamecocks were 13th and 12th in the two polls, respectively, last week.
Carolina has posted double-digits in wins for the second-straight season and for just the third time in school history. They will have an opportunity to match the school record for wins in a season at 11 when they play in a bowl game, against an opponent and at a site to be determined.
The Gamecocks only two losses this season came on the road at LSU and at Florida. The Tigers are currently 10-2 and ranked ninth in the AP poll, while the Gators are 11-1 and ranked fifth by the AP.
Notre Dame (12-0) holds the top spot in both polls, followed by Alabama (11-1) and Georgia (11-1). The Bulldogs only loss this season was a 35-7 rout at the hands of the Gamecocks.
