Gamecocks Outlast Michigan 33-28
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- The Gamecocks get their second ever 11 win season with a thrilling 33-28 win over the Michigan Wolverines. Ace Sanders scored three total touchdowns, Bruce Ellington had the final decisive touchdown, and Jadeveon Clowney had the play of the game; getting named player of the game.
After the Carolina defense seemed to stop Michigan, the Wolverines attempted a fake punt getting stopped right near the first down marker and a controversial call was made; the officials called a Michigan first down when the ball seemed to be a link or two short on the measurement. The next play Clowney broke threw smashed into the Michigan running back and took the ball away.
Starting quarterback Connor Shaw found Ace Sanders in the back of the end zone on the very next play to give the Gamecocks a 27-22 lead after the failed 2 point conversion.
Michigan would respond in the next drive when quarterback Devin Gardner would find Jeremy Gallon for a 17-yard score to put Michigan on top 28-27.
The next drive Shaw would find Sanders several times before getting injured and being replace by backup Dylan Thompson. Thompson would continue the march down the field eventually finding Bruce Ellington for his second catch of the game right in front of the endzone to go in for the final score making it 33-28.
