Looking Ahead To Bowl Season
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- The Gamecocks have finished their regular season and will start preparation for a bowl game in December. Here is a quick look at the bowls with SEC bids and who Carolina is projected to play.
The Bowls with SEC bids:
The Outback Bowl is where the Gamecocks are expected to go and to play Northwestern by both ESPN and CBSSports. The Wildcats finished the season 9-3 overall and 5-3 in the Big Ten, finishing third in the Legends division.
AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl (however most predictions don't have an SEC team playing here; most likely because there won't be any bowl eligible SEC teams by the time this bowl gets filed.)
The Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl is predicted to be filled by either Vanderbilt or Ole Miss from the SEC bid according to ESPN. Vanderbilt is the predicted pick by CBSSports.
The AutoZone Liberty Bowl has the same situation as the Independence Bowl.
The Chick-fil-A Bowl is expected to be filled by either by LSU or Georgia according to ESPN (if Georgia loses to Alabama in the SEC Championship game) and LSU by CBSSports.
The TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl is predicted to be filled by Vanderbilt or Mississippi according to ESPN and Mississippi State by CBSSports.
The Capital One Bowl is expected to be filled by Texas A&M by ESPN or Georgia by CBS Sports.
The AT&T Cotton Bowl is predicted to be filled by Alabama or LSU by ESPN if Alabama loses to Georgia in the SEC Championship; and Texas A&M by CBSSports.
The BBVA Compass Bowl is predicted to be filled by Ole Miss or Mississippi State by ESPN and Ole Miss by CBS Sports.
There are the four BCS bowls, three of which have one BCS at-large bid. The Sugar Bowl has an SEC tie-in. The Sugar Bowl is the only BCS bowl expected to be filled by an SEC team; both ESPN and CBSSports predict it to be filled by Florida.
Finally, there is also the BCS National Championship game which is expected to feature Notre Dame versus the winner of the SEC Championship game - Alabama or Georgia.
The BCS Bowl games are supposed to make their selections on Sunday and then all other bowls should be filled in the following days.
