Martin Looking For "Personality" From Gamecocks

By Sports Department

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- Following last Saturday's loss to Vanderbilt, USC head coach Frank Martin said his squad lacks "personality." With the loss, the Gamecocks fell to 11-6 on the season, and 1-3 in SEC play.

"What do you stand for?" Martin said when asked what he meant by personality. "Once you figure out what you stand for, well then, you gotta be able to stand up for it every day, even if it's within your own family."

After the game Saturday, Martin also said there is still a lack of leadership on the court, too. Monday, he explained why it's not just the voice of the coaches that is key to the team's character.

"As long as the coaches' voices are the ones that sound the loudest, in difficult times, you don't have a personality, your team doesn't," said Martin. "It's not just show up and play when the cameras are on. It's doing those drills every day when no one else is paying attention other than your teammates and your coaches. That's what I mean by personality."

USC is on the road Tuesday for a matchup against no. 17 Missouri.
