COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- Frank Martin says Gamecock basketball has a long ways to go to be ready for the start of SEC play January 9th at Mississippi State, but the fiery coach sees improvement from his team heading into the final two non-conference games of the year.

"There's no doubt we're a better team today than we were last week," Martin said Friday, one day before Carolina (8-3) hosts Presbyterian (2-10). "We've made tremendous progress. Are we anywhere near what we need to be? No, not even close."

The Gamecocks, who are riding a 3-game winning streak, will be without junior guard Bruce Ellington Saturday. Ellington is with the Carolina football team at the Outback Bowl.

Martin said Friday he will meet with USC administrators to learn more about the status of senior guard Lashay Page. The Southern Miss transfer did not play in USC's last game at Manhattan because of an academic issue.
