Spurrier: "We Are Still Trying To Win The SEC"

By Sports Department

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- For the 2nd consecutive year, Steve Spurrier and the Gamecocks have finished the regular season with a 10-2 record. USC will go for back-to-back 11-win seasons at the bowl game.

But, there is still one more thing the Head Ball Coach wants to get done during his tenure at USC.

"We are still trying to win the SEC," said Spurrier. "We still beat Georgia and lose two after that. We've had identical years right now. If we win our bowl game, we'll have almost the exact same year we had last year, which is not bad."

It was the loss to Florida in the Swamp in October that ended the Gamecocks hopes of a SEC title. Georgia finished with just one loss in the SEC - to the Gamecocks. Their better conference record gave them the Eastern crown and chance to play for a SEC championship and a possible berth to the BCS National Championship game. They'll have to beat Alabama on Saturday though first for that to happen.

Most projections have USC playing Northwestern in the Outback Bowl in Tampa.
