(WOLO) -- USC guard Brenton Williams was released from the hospital Thursday night and traveled home with the team from New York.

Williams suffered a neck injury with 13:34 left in the second half at St. John's when he collided with a Red Storm player after being fouled driving hard to the basket. The junior was on the court for several minutes after the collision. He was immobilized and taken off on a stretcher for precautionary reasons.

Williams was leading USC with 10 points at the time of his injury. The Gamecocks (5-2) lost the game 89-65.

Carolina plays again Sunday at noon at home against Clemson.
