COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins has received rave reviews in preseason camp.
"He’s probably had as good a camp as any we’ve had," said Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris. “There’s really no comparison in Sammy right now last year to this year,” said Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris. “He’s a lot more explosive and a lot more lean. Very determined and very focused."
Even his teammates have taken notice of his preseason camp performance.
“When you look at Sammy (Watkins) in practice, you’re like ‘wow, can’t believe what he’s doing,'” senior tailback Rod McDowell said Tuesday night. “Sometimes you have to catch yourself and say hey you can be so shocked at your teammate. Sammy has had a wonderful camp."
Many questions surround Watkins this year, who would like to leave his past in his past.
After stunning the college football world as a freshman in 2011 with 82 receptions, 1,219 yards and 12 touchdowns, Watkins completed a less than satisfying sophomore season, recording only 57 receptions for 708 yards and three touchdowns.
Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd recently told ESPN, "You can see the hunger in his eyes. I'm excited for him,” Boyd said. “I think he's going to break out and have a stellar season. Just talking to him, he's so excited and pumped up for this year."
