Rembert Man Arrested for Murder

Sumter deputies say a May December romance turned to a Valentine’s weekend murder. According to Major Hampton Gardner with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Department, 29 year old Derrick Shannon was arrested Sunday, charged with murder in the shooting death of his 45 year old girlfriend Beverly Thomas at her home on Black River Road in Rembert. Gardner says that Shannon claimed the shooting was an accident.
