SC’s First Black Female Lawmaker Found Dead

South Carolina’s first African-American woman, elected to the state legislature, has passed away. Juanita Goggins was found dead in her Columbia home, last Wednesday, which was March third. Coroner Gary Watts says, she actually died, two weeks prior to being found, of hypothermia. When officials arrived to her home, they say their was no electricity. Goggins was the first black woman elected to the South Carolina legislature, back in 1974 and was hailed as a trailblazer. Over three decades later, she died alone at age 75.
