NAACP Seeks to Stop Columbia Election

The State NAACP says it is ‘stepping in’ regarding the April sixth general election to be held in Columbia. The city’s decision to move forward with that election has angered many in the community, including the civil rights organization. Officials with the group say they do not think three weeks is enough time for citizens to be educated about possible candidates for the District II council seat, vacated by former councilman E-W Cromartie. Columbia city mayor Bob Coble believes the NAACP is within its rights in attempting to legally halt the election.
