The Citadel’s Roberts Now A Cardinal
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona selected speedy punt returner-wide receiver Andre Roberts from The Citadel late in the third round of the NFL draft. Coach Ken Whisenhunt says Roberts bolstered his draft stock with his performance in the Senior Bowl as well as at the NFL draft combine. The Cardinals look at Roberts as a replacement for Steve Breaston as punt returner. Coach Ken Whisenhunt wants the change because Breaston will see more playing time as the No. 2 receiver following the trade of Anquan Boldin. Roberts was the nation’s leading punt returner with a 19.2-yard average in 2008 and averaged 15.5 per return last season. He had 285 receptions for 37 touchdowns in his career at The Citadel, which competes in the Football Championship Subdivision, formerly NCAA Division I-AA.
