Donating phones to help soldiers call home

LEXINGTON, S.C. (WOLO) – The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is asking for your help in their Cell Phones for Soldiers program.

The program is designed to accept used cell phones, sell them to a recycling company, and take the funds made from that process in order to buy phone cards for deployed military personnel around the world.

You can donate the phones through September at Pine Ridge Middle School, which is located at 735 Pine Ridge Drive in West Columbia.  You can also donate the phones at the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at 521 Gibson Road in Lexington.

Make sure to erase all personal information from the phones before donating them. A battery must also be included, but the phone does not have to be working in order for it to be donated.

If you have any questions, you can call Officer Marc Isphording at (803) 755-7456.
