Shaw, Chas. AFB To Get New, Private Housing
SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. (AP) – The U.S. Air Force has chosen an Ohio-based firm to redevelop military family housing at four bases in three Southern states including South Carolina.
The Air Force said in a news release Saturday that the deal with Forest City Military Communities LLC of Cleveland is worth about $270 million.
Forest City will demolish all family housing in poor condition and replace it with nearly 2,200 new units at Shaw and Charleston Air Force Bases in South Carolina, Arnold Air Force Base in Tennessee and Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi.
Forest City will own and operate the developments under a 50-year lease and will be paid by housing allowances from airmen and officers who live on the base.
